GenCyber Hawai‘i Teacher Cybersecurity Camp
Sponsored by the National Science Foundation and National Security Agency
June 6-10, 2016 at Honolulu Community College (Free!)

The GenCyber Hawai`i program provides summer cybersecurity camp experiences for students and teachers at the K-12 level. The goals of the program are to help all students understand correct and safe on-line behavior, increase diversity and interest in cybersecurity and careers in the cybersecurity workforce of the Nation, and improve teaching methods for delivering cybersecurity content in K-12 computer science curricula. Our vision is for the GenCyber program to be part of the solution to the shortfall of skilled cybersecurity professionals. Ensuring that enough young people are inspired to direct their talents in this area is critical to the future of our country’s national and economic security as we become even more reliant on cyber-based technology in every aspect of our daily lives.

We are still accepting applications for the following tracks: Track 2: Intro to Cybersecurity for High School Teachers and Track 3: Advanced/Intermediate Cybersecurity for High School Students and Teachers. If any of your students or you are currently a cyberpatriot or have any programming, calculus, stats, networking, or computer science background, they can sign up for our track 3, intermediate/advanced camp. The Introduction Track 1 is open to all high school teachers.  If you want to register for one of these remaining tracks that are open, please email gencyber@hawaii.eduexpressing your interest.  The site registration is formally closed, but we are still accepting applications for these two tracks via the email provided.

Volunteers needed:

HSTE is looking for student volunteers to be room monitors at the Schools of the Future Conference in October. We would need a group of 20-25 high school students with a teacher chaperone or two.  Student volunteers will be able to attend the event for free for the day.  Student room monitors will be available to help presenters with any technology support and to answer any questions.  Students will also need to do a room count during the session.  Each day there are three sessions to attend, so it will be a full day of work.  This might be a great opportunity for a technology group or a group that needs volunteer hours.   If you are interested, please contact Mike Travis at info@hste.org.

If you need help with an event, please email us and we can the information here.
